5 Tips for a Stress-Free Wedding

At Bailey and Finch, our top priority is ensuring your wedding day is fun, stress-free, and filled with memorable moments with your loved ones—not spent stressing over details. Having captured hundreds of weddings over 10 years here are five tips to help make your special day as smooth as possible.

1. Leave Wiggle Room in Your Timeline

One of the best ways to stay relaxed on your wedding day is to avoid cramming your schedule down to the last minute. Add an extra 10–15 minutes to each activity because things often take longer than expected. This small buffer will give you the flexibility to enjoy the moment without worrying about running late.

Here’s an example of what an 8-hour wedding photography timeline might look like:

  • 12:00pm: Groom getting-ready photos

  • 12:50pm: Bride getting-ready photos

  • 1:20pm: Videographer sets up

  • 2:00pm: Ceremony

  • 2:30pm: Family photos

  • 3:30pm: Couple and bridal party photos

  • 6:00pm: Reception entrance

  • 8:00pm: Photographers finish

Adding a little breathing room to your timeline can make all the difference.

2. Consider Travel Times

Travel times between locations can eat into your schedule. One way to save time (and stress) is to get ready close to your ceremony venue. This small adjustment not only reduces the risk of delays but also gives you more time to relax before your big moment.

If this isn't possible, we do give couples the option of hiring a second photographer for the morning only, to cover multiple locations simultaneously.

3. Delegate the Getting-Ready Prep

Getting ready in a bright room with natural light is great for photos, but clutter in the background can be distracting. Designate someone—whether it’s a bridesmaid, family member, or friend—to tidy the room and keep it photo-ready. That way, you can focus on enjoying the morning while knowing your photos will look their best.

4. Organize Family Photos

Family photos after the ceremony don’t have to be a hassle. Before the big day, make a list of the group shots you’d like to take, be specific with names and how they relate to you. Then, assign your friend with the loudest voice to call out the names of family members during this time. It’s a simple way to keep things organized and efficient, allowing you to spend more time celebrating with your guests.

5. Swap Table Photos for Dance Floor Photos

Many couples want to ensure they have a photo with every guest at the wedding but worry about missing someone. Traditional table photos can be time-consuming and tricky if guests are away from their tables. Instead, try a more interactive option:

Have your DJ announce that during the next song, the bride and groom will be on the dance floor. As each table number is called, guests join you on the dance floor for a quick photo and some fun dance moves. It’s a lively way to engage your guests while ensuring you capture those special moments.
